The 2000's and the Last ( REAL ) Wonder Woman Costume

As Wonder Woman entered the 2000's her look remained the same. The new Artists that drew Princess Diana in her own comic and in other publications would borrow some of the better looks she had had.

Some added more stars to her Pants, some changed her Earrings from ovals, to stars, to small round buttons, and by the end she stopped wearing them altogether . Some even played around with her Tiara . Well there was a short period when Princess Diana lost her Royal Title and her Tiara.  BUT this was restored and Wonder Woman continued.

By the Mid 00's her look was as basically as below. Still recognisable as Wonder Woman. No earrings, but it was still business as usual.

Princess Diana Circa 2006 - 2009 still a Wonder Woman

This look was soon to change again, for a final time and some would say for the worse.

Next time out with the old in with the new.

Until then   Enjoy

THE RETURN OF THE TRUE WONDER WOMAN

As mentioned previously, Diana had died and her mother Hippolyta, Queen of Paradise Island (or Themyscira as it was now referred as) had taken up the roll as Wonder Woman.

In a twist soon the New Wonder Woman was whisked back in time where she became a member of the War Time Justice Society of America.  Queen Hippolyta or Polly to her friends would spend many years in the past. Around the early 1950's she would leave the Justice Society and travel back to the moment she had left the future.  The World and The Justice Society believed she had returned to Themyscira, and so the legend of Wonder Woman would again be reset.  Now history would note that a person named Wonder Woman had fought along side the Justice Society during and after the second World War.

When Polly return to the present she found that her daughter had now renounced her God hood and was now "Mortal" and she was ready to take up her roll as Wonder Woman again. Queen Hippolyta returned the mantle of Wonder Woman to her daughter and return home to the Amazons. BUT instead of receiving a warm welcome, the Queen found that her being away from the Island has caused infighting in between different fractions of the Amazon society.  (This is a story for another time.)

With Diana back as the Wonder Woman she continued on as normal. Most people did not realise that any change had happened, except for her close friends and team mates.

Diana;s costume was slightly altered from that she had worn before her death, The WW was more pointed and Ear rings where now Stars  Again ! and her pants had more Stars on them..... but on the whole it was the same look.

Here is Diana in her "New" reworked Costume.

A last look at Queen Polly as Wonder Woman  and her Daughter Diana the new Wonder Woman too,

As Wonder Woman went into the New Millennium her look stayed basically the same. Artists came and went  and would add  some thing to her look, but again it was not worthy of much mention.

However, a big change was about to happened, and next time we can see the last original look of the Wonder Woman, and a completely new one too.

Until the ENJOY !

Wonder Woman, Mother Knows Best ! The NEW Golden Age

In the late 1990's with John Byrne still at the helm of the Wonder Woman Comic some big changes happened.

These were all inter connected and would in some way sort out some of the inconsistencies  of Wonder Woman over the years, and would finally confirm "WHO DONNA TROY !" was .

Originally Princess Diana first fought alongside the Heroes of World War Two in the 1940's. This past History was destroyed after the First Crisis on Infinite Earths. When all these stories prior to this period were put down as being the History of the Wonder Woman of Earth 2. The Earth that the Justice Society had originally lived.

In the new History Diana came to America much later during the 1980's, so in theory she never played any part in WW 2.

Well that worked until DC decided that the old Heroes of Earth Two Justice Society could now become part of the main stream DC Universe. The only changes were that the likes of Batman. Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Arrow now had never been around in the War years, so were erased. Hawkman on the other hand was a problem, but he got a complete make over and became two different people with two different back stories.

BUT like trying to fix one inconsistency more always pop up. And DC would spend many years ironing out these problems. One of the Problems with deleting Wonder Woman from the past was the  problem of Donna Troy aka Wonder Girl . She now could no longer have any connection to Wonder Woman. As Donna now had joined the Teen Titans many years before Princess Diana ever become Wonder Woman. If you look at my Blog in 2012 you can see some of the story of Donna Troy.

In a Nut shell Wonder Girl had originally been Diana as a Girl, in the 1950's WW stories Diana would team up with her younger self (or is that Selves if you include Wonder Tot TOO !)  but due to a mistake when DC put together a "Junior Version of The Justice League"  the original Teen Titans, they included Wonder Girl, but with a clever re write Wonder Girl became not Diana as a Girl, but the Orphaned Donna Troy who had been adopted by Wonder Woman and her Amazon Sisters. This idea worked for many years...... but after the Crisis Donna lost her Amazon link, but by then she had stopped calling herself Wonder Girl, so it was not a big problem at DC.

Anyway back to John Byrne's all change with Wonder Woman. In 1997 he killed off Wonder Woman, well he killed off Princess Diana anyway.  A year before that he had introduced Cassandra Sandmark, who was now a "NEW" Wonder Girl.... But the biggest change was Princess Diana now dead became a God in Olympus meaning her Mother Queen Hippolyta  is forced to put on the Tiara and become Wonder Woman...... But in a twist she travels into the past to help the War Time Justice Society and in doing so becomes the "Golden Aged"  Original Wonder Woman.

Very complicated but it worked... and in doing so helped to finally define the true nature and identity of Donna Troy.  How and why Queen Hippolyta changed from being a Blond to a Raven headed beauty is still an unanswered question. And why she wore the tiara upside down is another !

Well Here is my version of Queen Hippolyta or Polly to her friends as Wonder Woman.

A  nod to the past gave Polly a more classic version of the Wonder Woman uniform with skirt. Unlike Diana this WW would sport a Sword and Shield and lasso as her weapons of choice.

with weapons

and Finally a look at the Golden Aged and the " New" Golden Aged Wonder Women together !

Daughter and Mother together for the first time.........

Well next time is all change again for Wonder Woman.

Until then ENJOY !

WONDER WOMAN ENTERS THE 1990'S

Over the years Wonder Woman's look had remained static. With a few changes here and there. The Eagle may have gone, but it was now part of the Double W. However like most of the DC Heroes they had all been redefined.

Wonder Woman's history was now changed, she was no longer a Hero from the 1940's and therefore had not been part of WW 2. This change was OK, as after the Original Crisis Earth 2 was now gone, OK a few of those heroes remained, but for the main Golden Aged Heroes like BAT-MAN, SUPERMAN and GREEN ARROW their past was now erased.

This meant that the Golden Aged Heroes that had lived on Earth Two had no place in the New DC Universe. So good bye to Older WW who was killed off in the Crisis along with most of the duplicated heroes. BUT Young Super Girl was also killed off, and her older counterpart, Power Girl remained although she was no longer Krytonian and had a new origin. Donna Troy was now removed as being connected with Princes Diana, her Wonder Girl past was swept under the carpet, and as she now was Troia or a Darkstar, no one talked about her Amazon past life.

But Back to Princess Diana, she was now free of her past and with each new writer and Artist she continued to evolve.  However, when John Byrne took over the Wonder Woman comic  in 1993 it was all change.

He redesigned everything about WW. Her Look was now more Pointy, and she had less stars on her pants and a very large Tiara.

"The Pointy" WONDER WOMAN Circ 1993

Fans loved some of what John was trying to do, but did not love his "New" and Improved Amazon Princess.... so after a while his new WW was dumbed down a fraction. Less Tiara was better.  He did go onto introduced a new Wonder Girl, Cassandra Sandmark, who would be a key player in the New Young Justice Super Teen Group.

JOHN'S 1993 WW look and his later revised less is more Princess Diana.

However, soon John would kill off WW, and replace her, and whilst doing so would finally reveal Who and What Donna Troy really was.

Next Time Mother Knows Best for Wonder Woman.

Until then ENJOY.
