YESTERDAYS HEROES ONCE MORE Part Fifty Five Do Or Die Trying!

After taking another sip of water Radley continue with his story.

Radley had been working his way to the Radio Communications room down on Deck D when he had run into one of the Guys he had escaped from on the Cargo Deck.

The Ginger Headed Guy was holding his shot gun, and he looked like he was about to use it on Radley. In a flash Radley  lunged forward pushing  and head butting the Ginger Headed Guy.

The hard Helmet he was wearing caused a much harder impact against the head of the gun Welding Bad Guy.  The Ginger headed Guy fell back against a light switch on the wall behind him. This caused the light to turn off.

Then it what seemed like slow motion, the Ginger Headed Guy slid down the wall, which turned the light back on.

He ended up sitting on the floor in a crumpled state. Radley approached him cautiously.

He was still holding his Gun, so was still a threat.  He was only stunned but not completely knocked out, then Radley reach behind his back, and pulled his Stun Gun off the hook on his belt.

He fired it Twice, hitting the Ginger Headed Guy in the chest. He moaned and slumped forward.

Radley pulled the Shot Gun from his now unconscious man. He then opened the nearest door and threw the gun  inside. Then he grabbed the Guys legs and pulled him inside the cabin also. Inside the cabin he found some cord and tied the Ginger Guy up, not before he moved the Guys Yellow Water Proof coat. He then hid the gun under the bunk after removing both cartilages. He then put on the Yellow Water Proof, and pulled up the hood. There was a small mirror in the cabin. The Yellow Water Proof now made him look just like the rest of the Guards and Crew he had encountered and seen. Hopefully this would help him move about the ship a little easier.

The Hood hid his Helmet and his Blue Combat uniform up to a point.

Now onto the the Radio Room.

Lucky enough the Room was only a few steps down the corridor. It was clearly marked. He went up to the door and listened. He could hear one voice. He assumed this was the 2nd office as he was calling for all Crew to return to the ship. Radley pulled out his Stun Gun, its power meter was blinking Amber,  he knew he had maybe one or two shots left. These would need to count.

Taking a deep breath Radley opened the door , the 2nd officer had his back to the entrance so had not seen or noticed him enter. Then Radley discharged two shots into the back of the man sitting at the desk. He slumped forward. He was out for the count too. Looking down at the Gun Radley noticed the power meter on the Gun was now showing Red. It had not completely run out of Juice, so Radley popped it into the pocket of the Yellow Waterproof Coat he may need it again.

Radley then fully entered the Radio Room and quickly closed the door and locked it. The Radio System was basic, but Radley knew how it worked. He changed the setting on the broadcast signal. This way hopefully JJ Biggles or any Crew of the Boat would not hear the Broadcast asking for help.

He then broadcast a Mayday Message, hoping that some one would pick it up. He listened for a response....Nothing. He changed the signal Dial and tried again.... still nothing. Radley knew that sooner or later if he stayed in the Radio Room he was bound to be discovered.  He then spun the dial once more, and broadcast a final Mayday message..... Still no answer, then he heard a voice. It was was a woman's voice. She said she was an amateur  Radio ham Called Valerie Harte. She was located just outside  Big City. Radley pleaded to  her to please contact the BCPD Police as a Gang of Killers were about to steal a ship from the Docks.  He told her to tell them it was JJ Biggles, he was trying to flee the country. She asked him his name. He was just about to say his real name when he bleated out.... " I'm called Blue Falcon"

She laughed, "Ok Lou  Malcolm , I will send the Police." She had miss heard him. He then signed off and prepared to exit the Radio Room. He placed the body of the still unconscious 2nd office in to a closet and closed the door. Spun the dials on the radio so no one would suspect that he had spoken to anyone.

He opened the door . The coast was clear he exited the Room, pulling up the Yellow hood on his Jacket.

All Radley had to do now was find a safe way to exit the ship. Hopefully his disguise would help. Looking out of one of the Portholes Radley could see that the gang plank had now been reattached and a number of men dressed in waterproofs were now boarding. This could be too risking a way off of the Boat. Far too many people in that area, he thought.

Then he had an idea, the ship had large mooring ropes that kept it attached to the dock. He wondered if he could climb down on one of those. Radley went back up to the Cargo Deck  which was only one Deck up. He went out onto the Deck, it was deserted. He went to the back of the Boat and located the massive mooring line there. Looking over the side he estimated he was approximately 300 hundred metres up. Maybe more. The climb down would be hard, especially wearing all his equipment. He contemplated dumping most of it to lighten himself, but then he would be defenseless if he encounter any opposition. Then he had a flash of inspiration. If the used another peace of rope or chain he could slide down the rope, just like a Zip Line.

The Cargo Deck was strewn with chains. He quickly found a piece just the right length. I hurried back to the back of the boat, someone was standing there.

It was Rita. She had not see him and was standing looking out over the water smoking a cigarette. Radley contemplated using the stun gun on her, but did it have enough charge ? He would need to be nearer to her to use it, and there was no way of getting to her without being seen.

Rita had stormed out of the Bridge as was still unhappy with her husband JJ. The one thing she knew that her husband would would pay for this. She stood on the deck watching the storm. She was unaware that Radley was behind her. As she puffed on her cigarette thinking of ways she could get back at her Husband JJ.

Radley was still crouched down behind the crate, he slowly raised his head above the crate and  making sure no one saw him shouted as loud as he could........

"Mrs Biggles, Mr Biggles wants you up in the Tower now !"

The Helmet and his face covering did muffle his voice a lot, she had not heard him.   As the storm was still in full force this did help either.

What could Radley do ? He needed to remove his helmet. This was risky, especially if Rita spotted him. She had met him after all.

So Radley removed his Helmet , and checking that he still had not been spotted shouted again.

"Mrs Biggles, Mr Biggles wants you up in the Tower now !"  She heard him.

Rita yelled something, and threw her cigarette into the water bellow, and hurried away from the side of the boat. She passed right by where Radley was crouching. Radley just managed to pull on his balaclava and Helmet as she went by. "Don't turn around" he whispered to himself. She didn't.

Once she was gone Radley ran up to the same spot. The coast was clear. He then placed the chain over the mooring Line, and wrapped both ends around his gauntlets. The Gloves he was wearing would hopefully protect his hands.   He carefully climbed up onto the railings.  It was a very long way down. Then he heard a voice some where to the rear of him. It was two guards making a patrol. They had not seen him. But it was now or never.

Radley launched himself off of the Railing and he slid down the rope. He was moving at a more faster pace than he had thought. The friction of of the rope on the chain had started to heat up the chain. Lucky his gloves were fireproof.

He was nearly at the Dock, but how would he slow down. He was moving far too fast. The speed and then impacting the Dock would mean injury possibly broken bones.

Then Radley noticed that there were a number of sacks by the side Dock, that had been unloaded from a truck that was parked there. He did not know that was in them. Would they be full of hard things like coal to power the boat, or grain or pulses to feed the crew. He was nearly at the end of the rope, he shut his eyes and let go of the chain. He impacted the bags and cartwheeled hit his head.

When he awoke, he found he was laying in piles of rice grains. His head hurt a bit but the helmet had saved him. How long had be been knocked out for ? He looked at his watch that was under one of his burnt gloves. He estimated it could have been no longer than a few minutes. He checked his body for any broken bones. He ached, but nothing appeared to have been broken. His ribs were sore and his head hurt, but he knew that he needed to get off of the Dock as soon as possible. The truck was still there, and who had left it had conveniently left the keys in the ignition.

He got in the truck and started the engine. The truck was old, and was difficult to drive. Turning the wheel was painfully hard, especially as this caused his ribs to hurt more. He needed to get to his own car he had left in the Cargo bay a few hours earlier. Mum's little Tank had powered steering and was an automatic, so would be much easier to drive. He knew he need to go passed the boat to get to the cargo bay, He pull down the hood on his Yellow Raincoat. As he passed the Boat, one of the guards waved to him, Radley put his head down and waved back.  Hopefully the guard had not spotted him wearing his Blue get up under the yellow raincoat. He had not attempted to stop him, so the disguise had worked. He was soon at the location of his car.

He got out of the truck, and walked over to his car. Taking off the yellow rain coat he threw it onto the passenger seat in the front, he then walked to the Trunk and unhooked his belt that contained the equipment he had taken with him. Then he  got in and sat down behind the wheel of the car. He started the engine, at least the car was still working. He placed it into gear and was about to release the parking break when he heard a click, and something hard was poking him in the back of his neck. Then he heard a laugh.

What was it ? Who was it ?  Was this the end ? Had Radley run out of luck ?

Find out whats happens next next time, But until then ENJOY !
