Yesterdays Heroes once again Part Seventy Seven ....... Meeting Mr Grumpy

 The Doctor and his team , accompanied by the Impossibles had now left the Hotel Suite and were now walking towards the Guest Elevators. 

As they walked along the corridor both groups intermingled with one another. Whilst Muti-Man entertained Phooey and Jack, Fluid Man got to know Reggie a little better. The Doctor felt a fondness for Coil Man who kept everyone laughing with his corny jokes. The Doctor knew that these young guys would make an excellent addition to the team.

The plan was for the Impossibles to go and do their TV Interview commitments, and then follow on  later to Candlestick Park. Whilst the Doctor and his team would go straight there now  and hopefully locate the mystery Cowboy Gun man, Johnny Ringo who they knew would attempt to rob the takings from the concert later on that evening.

Well that was the plan at present. Arriving at the two Elevators that were located at either side of the corridor opposite one another, Lee aka Multi Man cleared his throat and spoke.

"Left or Right ?" inquired Lee to the Doctor. He pointed to both Elevators which were located one on the Left and one on the Right.  

"you choose" replied the Doctor shaking his head.... not really understanding why the question had been asked.

Manny held up a finger and push the Elevator call button on the Right hand side.

"We are going with Mr Grumpy then ?" muttered Walter. 

"Yes, I am not sure I could take another dose of Mr Ancient and his Tales of When He Was a Boy " Manny Joked. 

Phooey looked at Jack, and then at the Doctor. None of them knew what both statements meant, but they were soon to find out.

After about a minute there was a loud Ping from a Bell, and the elevator doors slid open. A little bit surprised  the Doctor and his Team saw that the lift was not empty. A man dressed in a  Green hotel uniform very similar to the one Phooey had worn stood inside.   Unlike the staff elevator, this one had a person to operate it for the guests. The man just stared at the Doctor and his companions. He did not smile, he just glared at the group.

"Good After Noon George" The 3 Impossibles said in Unison.

The Man in the Green Uniform did not reply he just nodded.

The Doctor was ushered in along with his team and then joined by the Impossibles. It was a tight fit, but they all managed to squeeze inside the lift compartment. 

"I cannot remember having so many people in my Elevator at one time" said George

"What floor Sir ?" asked George looking at Walter

" Ground Floor George, we have a press interview set up in the Moonlight Ballroom" Replied Walter.

"Very good sir" replied George the Elevator operator.

George pushed the correct button and the doors closed.  There was a slight shudder and Elevator began to move.  This may have been a nicer Elevator than the one the Doctor and his friends had used earlier, but this one was very noisy with lots creaking and tapping coming from outside.  All of sudden an awkward silence within the Elevator Car as everyone listened to the strange sounds. Phooey knowing that Jack found some of these new experiences to be a little unnerving decided to lighten the mood.  

"Nice Hat, I used to have one like that " Phooey said  to George, remembering the Red Bell Boy hat he had worn earlier on during the day.

"Thank You, Sir. It comes with the Job " George replied in a some what sarcastic manner.

"Are you three Gentlemen staying at our Hotel ? " inquired George looking at Doctor and the other faces he did not recognize.

" No they are our guests, just visiting " Walter said

" This is our Private Doctor, comes all the way from England" Manny said pointing at the Doctor.

The Doctor Smiled and waved.

"Our you really a Doctor ?  You do not look like a Doctor " George questioned.

"Yes, I really am a Doctor! " The Doctor replied a little annoyed by George's tone of voice.

" This is our Personal Trainer " Walter added pointing at Phooey

Phooey gave the Thumbs Up and smiled.

" I suppose you  come from England too ? " George replied 

" No I come from America " Phooey snapped back not liking anything about this man.

" And this is our fashion advisor" Lee explained pointing at Jack.

As Usual Jack did not really understand what had been said, but he nodded his head.

" Do you mean the Gentleman with the Umbrella ? He is your  Fashion Advisor ? I don't believe it " George said cuttingly looking at Jack in his colourful shirt and shorts.  He then added " When I first started working at The Star Hotel back in 1939 we had a very strict dress code, that all guest adhered to. Now it looks like Any Thing Goes " he rolled his eyes and sniffed.

Jack squeezed the handle of his Umbrella hard and glared back at this man in the Green Suit.

George yet again to glare  at the party of travelers in his elevator and he seemed a little puzzled at what he could see..  " Mr  Wells, I did not believe the hotel allowed Pets of any type on the premises. Especially Canines " he said looking at Walter, and then at Reggie. " Does Mr Saloon, the Hotel Manager know about this ?" George added.

Reggie had heard enough, he wanted to bite the man who had been very rude to his friends. Phooey had noticed that Reggie was starting to tremble. He quickly held on to Reggie's collar just in case Reggie  flew at George.

Before Walter could reply to George's question  another voice rang out

"He is not a Pet, he is our Mascot"  it was Lee

" And he is not really a Dog, he is a Robot !"  Manny chipped in Grinning.

This comment made the Doctor, Jack and Phooey all gulp.  That comment may have exposed Dyno -Mutt's secret.

" Oh, a Robot Dog. How clever. Is it Japanese ?. I hear that the Japanese are building some amazing Toys and   Inventions these days .... No wonder they need to  with All that War debt they need to repay to us.  I wonder where you put the batteries, or does he windup with a Key " said George rolling his eyes not believing a word he had heard. Robot Dog indeed he muttered to himself.

Jack just looked  over at Phooey and whispered into his friends eye....  " Is he challenging me to a Battle ?

Phooey  who was trying not to laugh at the Japanese comment and the previous one about Jacks's Fashion sense..realized and quickly he whispered back under his breath. " No he just being rude !"

Jack gripped his Umbrella tighter in is right hand. He was not very happy.

 Reggie had put his paws over his eyes, as he was thinking about the  "where do you put the Batteries ! " comment. He thought himself he knew exactly where he would Put Mr Grumpy's Batteries.

" No Reggie he was built  here in the US of A" the Doctor  added hoping to break the tension.  He noticed that Jack was grasping his "Umbrella" very tightly after hearing the Japanese and Fashion  comments. Please do not react Jack the Doctor thought to himself. The Doctor realized that he did not very much care for Mr Grumpy George Combs

" If he is a really a Robot, why does he smell as bad as a real Dog ?.... I'm at Cat Person myself " George continued glaring at Reggie and sniffing the air. 

Before the conversation could continue any further the Elevator Bell Pinged and the Doors Slide open.

"Saved by the Bell" Joked Manny

" Ground Floor, Main Reception" announced George.

" Good Afternoon Gentlemen and Robot Reggie  !" George added in a sarcastic tone smiling a very false smile.

"Stay Happy George" The Impossibles said in Unison laughing

George just rolled his eyes and did not comment.

"What a rude Man, Reggie does not smell " said Phooey

"Yes" Agreed Jack.

Reggie wanted to agree too but knew he was not allowed to speak in a Public Place. He considered to let George had a quick blasted from his Heat Vision, but again he had promised the Doctor he would not use it unless told to do. He looked back at the Elevator and saw that the Doors were now sliding closed. Hopefully that was the last he would see of Mr Grumpy.

The exit from the elevator was to the side of the Main Reception Desk, so was slightly out of view of any one.

 " I will see where our Taxi Cab is, and in the mean time you need to keep Reggie hidden.  ! whispered  the Doctor to Phooey and Jack.

 Whilst the Doctor's team were in discussion, the 3 Impossibles were talking too. Lee was explaining he had a plan that hopefully help  Reggie exit the Hotel without being seen. 

"Doctor if you come with us we will find out where the Taxi is"  said Manny taking the Doctors arm. As they walked the Doctor asked was George always that rude. 

"Yes, he is" was the reply all three nodded.

"Has no one ever reported him to the Hotel Management ?" The Doctor said shaking his head.

" Our Manager, Big D did when we first arrived here,  he went straight to Mr Saloon the Hotel Manager, to tell him he had insulted him, but nothing happened ?" said Manny

"Later on we found out the reason why no one tackles Mr Grump and his attitude " continued Lee

"Why ?, what was the reason !"  The Doctor said looking puzzled.

"Mr Grumpy is related to Mr Saloon, the Hotel Manager.  George Combs is married to Mr Saloon's sister." laughed Walter.

" And some people seem to like what he says " Manny added.

Then the Three Impossibles and the Doctor carried on walking toward the desk which had Reception written on it.
