Yesterdays Heroes Once More Part Sixty Eight....... The Impossible Search Begins, but first a slight detour.....

As his team prepared to leave , The Doctor had a few last words with The Falcon and Space Ghost, just to make sure that they both understood the plan..... Plus he wanted some more information about Johnny Ringo the  Gunslinger. The Falcon said he would look into this and report back to the Doctor. The Doctor explained that he had placed micro radio in Reggie's collar that they could use to contact each other. Plus if they needed to find the team, it would double up as a tracker.

Whilst the Doctor was talking Phooey pushed the handle that released the outer door as he had been told to do.

As the Internal Door of the Tardis opened, Phooey, Jack and Dyno - Mutt prepared themselves to exit. Jack grasped his disguised Katana tightly in his hand, whilst Phooey took up a defensive stance. He looked out of the door and sniffed the air. Smelling only the salty sea air he indicated that the coast was clear. Jack looked at Phooey, he was glad that his little friend was coming with him on this mission.

Then along with the Doctor they all left the Tardis. The Doctor looked back at the control Console as he left the Tardis. The light on the Console was still flashing, and he believed he knew what that meant. And this could explain why a Gunslinger from the Old West was walking around 1960's San Francisco.

Once outside the group could see where they had landed. The Tardis had set down on one of the Piers that where dotted along the coast of the City of San Francisco.  This Pier was deserted, which was ideal. The Tardis had landed towards the furthest end of the Pier so was out of sight of the Dock Side and the City that opened up beyond.  Walking along towards the exit, the Doctor could see that the gates had been padlocked closed.

Jack walked up to the gate and held up his "umberella" and was about to strike the padlock.....

Reggie ran up to the Gate  and sat down and said " Leave this to me !"

Jack returned to where the others were standing, turned around and watched.

Dyno - Mutt looked at the locked gates.  He then held up his left Paw.

He then  produced a skeleton key from out of his Paw and inserted it into the lock.  Then he turned it a few times. ....... And with a click the Padlock opened.

"Good boy Reggie" Said The Doctor

Pulling opened the Gates, the foursome walked through. Phooey then clicked the padlock back on the gates so no one would know anyone had opened it, let alone had been on the pier. Jack bowed to Reggie as he knew that his new friend had done good.

Now on the Dock Side the Doctor looked around trying to get his bearings.  The area was deserted,  as this part of the docks was a little run down it seemed.  The Doctor bent down and whispered into Reggie's ear. Before leaving the Tardis with the help of the Blue Falcon he had down loaded into Reggie's internal memory bank some information about the City of San Francisco along with maps etc. Reggie was to be  their guide.

Reggie responded that Candlestick Park was approximately 11 and one quarter Kilometres away. The Doctor realized that was about 8 miles and would take a time if they went by foot. They needed transport...... But transport would cost money.  Unfortunately money was something that they did not have.

Noticing a small road side kiosk that was selling Newspapers and Magazines, the Doctor went across to it with Reggie. At the Kiosk the Doctor asked the Man working there where was the nearest pawn  brokers shop. The News Vendor happily gave him directions. It was only a few blocks away.  It was close to the China Town area of the City. This was not far and was as it happened in the direction they were going.

Armed with the information the foursome headed off in the direction guided by Reggie.

After a few minutes they arrived outside  a store on Kearny Street. On the sign outside it said , The Maxferd Jewelry & Loan . There was a sign in the Window that declared they were the Nations Oldest Pawn business. Since 1884 in fact. That was not old the Doctor thought, but quiet old for a "Newish" Nation he realized.

This would do fine, and would do the Doctor said.

What was the Doctor going to Pawn ?

Find out next time.... Until Then ENJOY !
