A New Topic with Old Heroes ............. YESTERDAYS HEROES ROBIN HOOD

The legend of Robin Hood has been in British Folk Law since the 13th Century. Was he real of was he myth is unclear. Was he a based on any real person or persons ? again nothing can be sure again.

All we know is that for many centuries song and stories have been told of Robin Hood, or Robin of The Hood the famous outlaw who Robbed from the Rich to give to the poor.

A hero of the common people at the time of the "evil" King John, brother of  the imprisoned King Richard the First of England , or Richard the Lion Heart as more commonly known. 1157 - 1199.

Again we know all about King Richard, but their is no real proof that a defender of freedom and the just rose to appose the care taker King John at that time.

BUT that does not take away that many a school boy for years  have read tales of Robin Hood and his Merry Men  dressed in Lincoln Green and living the rebels life in Sherwood Forest.

Hollywood and British Television made the Hero famous with Douglas Fairbanks in the 1920's , Errol Flynn in the late 1930's, Richard Green the British TV hero in the hood in the 1950's and early 1960's    And he had the Best Theme Song too

Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, with his band of men
Feared by the bad, loved by the good
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Robin Hood

..... even Sean Connery got to play him as a old man in the 1970's..... and a few years later his son Jason played a younger version again on the Telly in the 1980's

And there are many more versions too even Disney got in on the act too.

A  Man of Myth and Mystery. He could be seen as the First Vigilantly Hero. Many modern day Super Heroes owe a debt to him in some way. Batman, and Robin who was partly named after the medieval hero........ and Not forgetting Green Arrow...... who could have been Robin Hood

Here is my take on Robin Hood

A VERY BRITISH HERO who showed it IS * easy being Green..."

Next Time another Hero from Yesterday.

Until Then ENJOY
