YESTERDAYS HEROES ONCE MORE Part Eighty Three....... The Secret of the Wooden Box reveled

Last time we had seen that Phooey and Jack had not found Johnny Ringo or The Man dressed as a Monk, but what they had found was a spent bullet casing.  Could this have belonged to Johnny Ringo ?

At the same time The Doctor and Reggie had found a Strange looking Wooden Box, That was locked. Once opened relieved what the Doctor had suspected was right, when earlier in the day a  blinking light flashing on the Tardis Console  had caught his eye.

As the door swung open after  The Doctor had unlocked it with a key he had in his pocket, he and Reggie could now see inside. However, what they could see was not very clear. The inside was very dark at first but after a few seconds, they could see some blinking Lights within.

As they continued to look the internal lights started to illuminate the inside.

Soon they both could see more and more....

"It is a Tardis ?" Reggie said to The Doctor

"Yes it is " Was the reply.

The Doctor walked towards the open door quickly followed by Reggie.

Looking around they could see that no one was inside. By the far wall was a largest machine, that had many flashing lights and leavers on it

"That is the control console" said the Doctor pointing at it.

With that he stepped over the threshold and entered the Tardis, again quickly followed by Reggie.

" Be a good chap and close the door " The Doctor said
Reggie put a paw on the back of the door and pushed it, and the door automatically began to close.

Reggie look around him. The room had for walls. One that the had the door they had entered through, one had the one stood slightly behind the control console opposite, the wall to the right had a set of double doors half way down the interior  as did the wall opposite.

" It is not very big in here, and why is it  so dark ?" Reggie asked the Doctor.

" Well it is a big as it needs to be. The interior look would have been choosen by the Pilot, plus I do think it is running on reduced power at the moment." replied The Doctor who was looking at the Control Console display screen and noted had become less bright again.

The Doctor went over to the door on his left and opened it. Inside he could it contained a bed and a rack of clothes. This must be the Monk's cabin. He closed the door and walked towards the door opposite. The Doctor opened it and looked in. It was a larger space with was full of boxes and things. There was  a very long table. The table had tools and equipment strewn out all over it. Some of it the Doctor knew to be Tardis components, others things that seem to be equipment cobbled together. It appeared to indicate that the Mystery Monk was trying to make repairs to his Tardis using technology available from this time period and that from older times.

He spotted a box that had Radio Valves stamped on the side. He remembered what he had been told  by The Blue Falcon that in the 1920's a Woman dressed like Cleopatra had been involved with stealing a shipment if Radio Valves in Ireland. In one of the corners of the room he saw some copper wire, again he had been told that in England in 1935 it had been reported that a Caveman had stolen such from a foundry in England. This was now making more sense.

By this time The Doctor had entered the room fully, Reggie had stayed outside watching from the doorway. The Doctor turned and smiled to the Mechanical Mutt. Then the Doctor spotted something that he had not seen earlier.

There was a Dust Sheet covering something behind the one of the Doors. He walked over the pulled it off. A big cloud of dust flew into the air and into his eyes. He wiped his eyes with his Red Handkerchief and then sneezed into it. Now his eyes were  starting to clear he studied the object that had been covered by the Dust Sheet. He inspected it, and realized what it was. He quickly replaced the Sheet and exited the room closing the doors behind him.

"What did you see Doc ?"  Reggie inquired

"Everything I needed to see, and more " was the reply... He continued " I will explain everything later after I have a good look at the Control Console"

The Doctor walked over to the Control Console, closely followed by Reggie. They both stood in front of it.  It towered up over them.

"Is the Monk a Giant ?" asked Reggie, wondering how any one could reach the controls, let alone operate them.

"No, he is not a Giant" replied the Doctor smiling.  He then asked Reggie to step back. The Doctor looked down at the floor in front of the console where he was standing.

"There it is !" exclaimed The Doctor clapping his hands together and stepping forward.

The Doctor then stamped his right foot twice, and if by magic part of the floor started to rise. Up and Up it went until the Doctor was at the right height to see the controls properly.

Up and Up the platform went.

The Doctor reached his arms and brushed the Yellow and Green control knobs either side of the Console.

The Platform then came at a stop

Then after pushing a few buttons, the Doctor laid his hands on the Control Console and waited.

As the screen started to flicker into life,

Reggie extended his neck so that his head was now at the same level as the Doctor's. He looked on as the Doctor studied what started to appear on the viewing screen. On the screen were a lots of most strange squiggles and circles. Reggie had seen something like this back in the Doctor's Tardis. This must be the Time Lord written language he thought.

"What does it say ?" Reggie asked

" What we have here Reggie is a Mark 12 Time Capsule. It is very old indeed. My Tardis is a Mark 40, and was designed to be piloted by a crew of at least 6. As I operate my Tardis on my own, this makes steering her a little tricky at times. This craft was built and could be piloted by one person. It has a limited range and travel in these old machines can be slow. Looking at the display here  it does seems to have sustained damage a long time ago. It crash landed on Earth Thousands of Years Ago. It appears that the Time Circuits have been completely fried, so can no longer travel in time. The dimensional   unit it also seems no longer functions correctly.  So I believe that the pilot can only move location on this planet. "

" So he is stranded here ?" said Reggie

"Yes, he seems to trying his upmost to keep this craft running. Using what he can to help keep it operational. "

The Doctor looked down at one of the flashing lights. He smiled at first, then frowned.

"This control here is what the Time Lords called a Time Scoop. These allow the operator to literally scoop a person of a thing from another time period or planet. Usually this could be some thing from the past or the future, but it again appears this was also damaged in the crash. The Monk or who ever he is can only transport things from Earth's past to his present. The Time Lords used to use these devices to save and give aid to people and alien races. However, a few of my Race made errors in their judgement which caused issues with changing many planets histories. This allowed our race to choose who to save and who not to. This in turned caused wars, my forefathers  caused destruction. In the end they outlawed these devices and there use. All were destroyed I believed on order of the Time Council. How this one survived I do not know. The strange thing about this Scoop is that is set to return the person of thing back to its original point of origin after 48 hours. That is why that tomorrow Johnny Ringo will disappear from a lock Police Cell.  As it was said about the Man calling himself Abraham Lincoln back in 1910 who just faded from sight after he was arrested. It seems that once the Monk no longer has a need for the person, they are returned back to their time period. Using the Scoop takes much power, and it appears to have drained this Tardis with its over use."

Then the Doctor touched a few button and turned a few dials. Then he tapped his foot and the flat form started to descend. As it did the View Screen return to its blank state.

" That should throw a spanner in the works regarded this Meddling Monk ". The Doctor said looking at Reggie and smiling.

" I have one last thing to do before we leave " The Doctor said walking passed Reggie patting him on the head as he did. The Doctor went behind the Console and started fiddling with what was behind. There was little room between the back wall and the back of the Console so Reggie could only look on wondering what the Doctor was doing.

At first the Doctor studied the back of the Machine

Seeing what he was looking for, he lent over and pushed a dull Red button.

"There it is  !" he  muttered

Stepping back he looked on as the Red Button started to glow brighter,

He waited patently, watching  the lights blink and shine......... and then.......

A Panel started to slide Open....

As it slowly lowered, the Doctor spotted what he was looking for.

Now fully open, the Doctor surveyed the situation.

He stepped forward, and after seeing that the device was not booby trapped, he made his move.

" That's it. One last Pull should do it ! " the Doctor said as he fiddled inside the Machine.

" Do You  want Me to land a Paw ?" Reggie asked

" I am doing fine, thank you " replied The Doctor

Then there was a large POP, and The Doctor stepped back. He pushed the Red Button again, and the Panel began to close.

" This will certainly Cook The Monk's goose for sure ! "  said the Doctor looking down at what he had in his hands.

After a few seconds he re emerged holding a Small Round Ball shaped thing, This Yellow Ball like thing with Red, Purple and Blue wires poking out of it.

Reggie had taken a few steps back, as he thought this thing could be dangerous.

" Catch !" The Doctor shouted  to Reggie, tossing the Yellow Ball up in the air towards the Metal Hound.

Reggie opened his mouth catching the item.

" Good Catch !......Could you store that for me" The Doctor asked smiling.

Reggie closed his mouth, and with a Big Gulp swallowed the Ball.

" All safely stored in my tummy " Reggie said with a giggle. " It Tastes like Chicken ! " he added.

The Doctor smiled at Reggie, but all of a sudden the smile washed from his face. The Doctor was looking behind Reggie towards the main door. The door had started to open....

What happens next..... come back next time

Until Then ENJOY.
