Yesterdays Heroes Once More. Part Eighty Two .... The Search Begins

Finally The Doctor and his Team had made it to Candlestick Park. They entered the Ticket Office to find no one was there. A note on the Counter read back in 5 Minutes.  There were two doors leading off of the Office. One said Private and other said way to the Stadium.

They entered through the one marked Stadium. The door it lead them to a badly lite  very long corridor that had passages going off of it. Those on the inner side went up into the seating area in the Stadium. The other side was a mixture of store rooms, retail booths, Rest Rooms etc. The place was deserted, or appeared to be deserted. Most of the Staff looked like they had not arrived for work yet. That must  be the reason for not having good lighting the Doctor thought.... to save money when building not in use. Not ideal for them to search in, but ideal for a Cowboy who dressed in Black to hide.... and there was this Mystery Person dressed like a Monk with Red Eyes, they too could be watching them from the shadows at the very moment. The Doctor spoke these concerns to his team, and that they all needed to be very careful for now on.

"That sounds creepy" said Phooey imaging what both would look like up close. Could they really being watched by an Evil Outlaw and the Strange Monk  at this very moment?

Phooey shut his eyes as he thought about  them both of them creeping up on him.

Then Phooey nearly jumped out of his skin,  as Reggie's Collar Micro Phone Communicator started beeping.

" It is ok Penry, it is just Radley and Thaddeus calling from the Tardis " said the Doctor to the nervy Phooey.

Reggie handed the Device to the Doctor as he had done earlier.

"It's The Doctor here, have you got any more News ?" he said into the device.

"Hello Doctor, I hope you are all Ok" said a voice, it was Thaddeus aka The Space Ghost.

"We are all fine, we made contact with The Impossibles, and they will be joining us on our little quest" replied the Doctor.

"That's great. Doctor we have found a little bit more about the strange "Monk" that will be mentioned in the Newspaper tomorrow. Would you like to hear about it ? This time it was Radley aka The Blue Falcon  speaking.

Back in the Tardis

"Go ahead Young man" The Doctor said nodding.

Now it was Thaddeus' turn to speak  "Well it seems that this "Monk character  has been spotted all over San Francisco in the last 3 months. These sightings have usually been prior to one of the strange anomalies that have happened of late. He has been seen, but we have not been able to find any real hard evidence or a  Clear Photograph of him... but he is always described as having Red Eyes.... But 10 Years ago a similar person was seen in Florida just before a Bank  was Robbed by a  person described as dressed as a Knight in Armour carrying a Sword and a Shield. This Robbery happened during the day and a passer by took a few pictures of the Knight running away. The passer by thought it was a publicity stunt. I will ask Radley to send you a copy of these photos via Reggie's Transmitter then he can down load to his system and show you. I think  one of the Photos does show the Monk driving the get away car. The more that we look the more evidence we find of him popping up. Different towns and Cities all over the World, but years apart. He is either Immortal, or a group of people using the same MO or  has he worked out how to travel through time.  Normally he has only been seen alone, but he does seem to appear around the same time a person dressed from an earlier time period has tried to steal some thing. "

"Yes Doctor, It is not always money or expensive goods each time, it was other things too" It was Radley again. "we found a report the a Woman Claiming to be Cleopatra Queen of Egypt . She was involved in the stealing a large shipment of  Radio valves from a Store in Ireland in the late 1920's... A Caveman in 1935 had been reported stealing Copper Wire from a foundry in England..... A bunch of chemicals stolen a few days later by a man dressed as an Ancient Roman Soldier from a Pharmacy again in England. These maybe just crazy stories, but in each a Red Eyed man in a Habit was mentioned too. Some of these people had been arrested after the event, but later disappeared. There was a report made that in 1910 a Man dressed like Abraham Lincoln was arrested for attempting to steal Ancient Artifacts  from a Museum in Cairo. He was taken to the local Police Offices, where he was interviewed, but during the interview he just faded from sight "

"We hope you found the information useful" Said Thaddeus

" Yes thank you, all very interesting" said the Doctor deep in thought.

" I hope Reggie is behaving himself, Tardis signing off " were the final words spoken by Radley as the communicator fell silent. The Doctor replaced the transmitter back in Reggie's dog collar.

Reggie stood silent as his prepared to have the Photographs of the Knight and Monk transmitted to him via the Communication link.

The Micro Transmitter started to receive the information

Then Reggie connected his internal data circuits to the transmitter

The Download from the Tardis began

50%

75%

100%

Good Boy Reggie !

Whilst Reggie was completing his download, Phooey had spotted some light switches, and had managed to turn a few more lights on. It was not as dark as it had been, but there were plenty of dark corners to hide in.

Before leaving the Tardis, the Doctor had asked Radley ( aka The Blue Falcon) to help Reggie down load detailed Maps of the Stadium outside and in.  The information was taken from the vast Data Base that the Tardis'  Computer Banks held.  The Doctor himself had requested as much Data as possible about the area.. He hoped that it could be used later if needed.

Then  ushering the group to a more secluded area,  making sure that no one was watching, The Doctor had Reggie shown them what information he had Down Loaded. Reggie obliged by showing them on his Miniature TV set he had built into one of his paws.

They all looked on as Reggie showed them many pictures and plans.

The finally  after the details about the stadium, came the pictures of the Robbery from the 1950's. There were two of the Knight coming out of the Bank. The original coloured Photo taken by the Tourist, and the same picture cropped that had appeared in a local Newspaper the following day.

The 3rd Photo showed again the Knight fleeing from the Robbery..... BUT this time the picture showed The Monk who appeared to be driving the get away vehicle. This also looked like a Newspaper Picture.

Could this be the Red Eyed Monk ?

The Doctor studied it. It was not the person he thought it would be, his old adversely "The Meddling Monk" This was some one new and therefore unpredictable. He told his team to study both of the faces of The Monk and Johnny Ringo. Reggie obliged by recalling an Image of The Cowboy and a cropped version of the Monk.

Once everyone was happy with what they had seen, Reggie retracted the Micro TV back into his paw.

"He does not look as scary as I imagined" Phooey said

"Maybe, not, but still dangerous" replied Jack

"Exactly" said the Doctor agreeing.

As the Doctor suspected the corridor they were in ran the complete interior of the Stadium. Not a true circle as such but......he had noted that if you walked forward you would eventually end up  back where you had started. However there were a lot of places that you could hide away. The inner corridor was broken up into sections, numbers and letters had been assigned to each, along with colours. This would make identifying where they were much easier,

The Doctor suggested that if they slit up into two teams and walked in different directions they should be able to search the whole of this level in half the time.

He told Phooey and Jack to start their search to the left which was the Blue Section, whilst Reggie and him would go the Right into the Red Section.

From his pocket the Doctor took out a small device and gave it to Phooey. It was a miniature walkie talkie. The Doctor explained that his was linked to the Transmitter in Reggie's collar and if they spotted anything or somebody suspicious, they were to contact him. He reminded everyone that Johnny Ringo was a dangerous person, how carried two revolvers, and unless they could not avoid it they should not engage him, just call for back up. He and Reggie would do the same thing. All everyone had to do is to look at the signs and the they would know where they were at any one time. If he pushed the Green Button it would connect to Reggie's Collar transmitter, and they could talk. Push the Red Button and this would send a distress signal again to Reggie's Collar transmitter, and then he and Reggie would come and give help.

Phooey looked at the device. It looked similar to ones he had seen back at his Police Station.

The Doctor reminded them that Johnny Ringo had or would inform the Police that he was working with a Man who dressed as a Monk. The only other bit of information he had was that the Monk had strange Glowing Eyes.  This could be some form of mind control. As the Doctor Assumed that this was why the Out of Time people were always willing to help him. Again as he had said about Ringo , that they should not tackle him unless they had no choice. And they should stay together at all times.

"Remember" he said "Call for Back Up!"

Jack & Phooey both nodded, and Reggie did a salute as if he as soldier how had been given orders.

AYE AYE Doctor !

Jack did not know what this gesture meant, but thought he would copy Reggie as this must be the right and correct response. So he also saluted the Doctor.

Phooey began to laugh at seeing Jack mimicking Reggie, so he did a salute also.

"Very amusing" muttered the Doctor shaking his head.

With that the foursome split into Two Teams and headed off in different directions.

As the Doctor walked beside Reggie he asked him how good his sensors were. As he remembered that when he first met Dyno - Mutt ,Reggie was able to detect Him and Space Ghost who were invisible at the time. Reggie  stopped and gave the Thumbs Up. He was keeping to his promise of not to speaking as he had been told.

"That's okay Reggie, I will allow you to speak during this part of the Mission. It will make  communication much much easier. " The Doctor said patting the Mechanical Mutt of the Head.

"Thank You, would you like to see my sensor controls Doc ?" Reggie said

"Yes Please" Was the reply

Reggie stood up on his back legs and tapped his chest with his front paws, and the front of his chest swung  open.

" Here they are !" exclaimed Reggie proudly.

The Doctor looked. They looked simple enough for him to understand.

"May I change some of the Settings, I want to change the Frequency so you can scan for something for me." Asked the Doctor.

"Sure" Reggie replied.

The Doctor touched a Few Buttons, and turned a couple of knobs. He was re tuning  Reggie's sensors so to hopefully detect something he wanted to find.

"That Tickles" Chuckled Reggie

" All done, you can close up now " the Doctor said patting Reggie on Head. Reggie shut the hatch.

Now that Reggie was all re tuned the Doctor explained that he should now be able to hear any strange electrical vibrations and if he did he was to inform him straight away. Reggie wanted to know what he was scanning for. The Doctor told him that at the present time he would rather not say. Reggie looked a little sad, but he knew that even The Blue Falcon at times kept secrets from him.

"okay, are you ready to go ?" the Doctor asked.

Reggie nodded, and the two started walking forward  once more looking for clues etc.

At the same time, Phooey and Jack had been looking but had found nothing yet. They had found a couple of Flash Lights, and with these it made looking into some of the Dark Corners a little bit easier.

Now they had entered The Green Section. Unfortunately Phooey was unable to locate any light switches, so the pair were being very cautious.

All of a sudden Jack held up on of his hands. Then he whispered...

"I think I heard something from in there" He said pointing in the direction he was shining his Flash Light.

Slowly and without noise both Jack and Phooey entered the corridor and opened the door to the room.  The sign on the door  read    ...... Private Staff Only.

Inside the darken room they could both just about make out it was some sort of Kitchen. Phooey flicked the light switch, but nothing happened.  They shone their Flash Lights around the room. It looked deserted.

Then they heard a faint sound coming from in front of them. They both shone their Flash Lights in that direction. There was a sink unit, and underneath something was moving. Jack shone his light on it, but it quickly moved. It darted along the back wall under the sink and down a drain hole.

It was a Rat. This must have been what Jack had heard.

Both Jack and Phooey were slightly relieved  that it was not The Monk or The Outlaw, but the thought of finding a Rat in a place where food was prepared and stored  made Phooey wonder about  how good the cleaning staff really were.

Then Jack who had been shining his flash light around spotted something glinting on the floor near to far wall. He pointed to it and Phooey went over and picked it up.

It was spent shell from a hand gun he believed. He sniffed it.

"Its been discharged recently, I can smell the Gun Powder" Phooey said to Jack.

Phooey then explained to Jack what it was. Phooey said he would not tell the Doctor of this as it was not really evidence that they had found Johnny Ringo. But it raised questions. Jack agreed not to tell the Doctor at this time.

Phooey popped the shell case in his pocket. Then he turned one of the taps on the sink and washed his hands. There was no knowing if the Rat had been near it or not Phooey thought. Then after finishing their search of that room they moved off to look somewhere else.

Meanwhile, Reggie and the Doctor had discovered nothing. Then Reggie stopped. He stood still and his ears started to waggle up and down.  The Doctor looked at him. he had seen the schismatics of Reggie. His ears were part of his sensory equipment.

"What do you hear?" Asked the Doctor.

"I'm not sure, but I can let you hear it if you want " replied Reggie.

The Doctor nodded. Reggie opened his mouth wide. To the Doctors surprise he was a small device, it turned out it was some sort of speaker. Reggie turned it on.....it started  emitting came a strangely familiar  Humming Sound.

"That's it, That's it!" Said the Doctor jumping up and down.

Reggie then shut his muzzle and started turning his head from side to side. Once he found the direction of the humming he sped off in front of the Doctor.

"Wait for me" shouted the Doctor as he ran after his four legged friend. As The Doctor turned one of the corners he spotted Reggie disappearing into one of the many rooms that littered the corridor.

Reaching the door the Doctor peered in to see Reggie sitting down in front of a Wooden Cupboard wagging his tail.

"Good boy Reggie !" smiled the Doctor.

"It's locked Doc. Do you want me to open it with my special skeleton Key ?" Reggie  asked eagerly

"No need, I think I have a key on me that will open that lock" replied The Doctor. Who then put his had in his trouser pocket and took out a normal looking Brass Front Door Key. A key that Reggie had seen the Doctor use before,

The Doctor showed it to Reggie and said " I doubt even your Key would not open this lock"

Then asking Reggie to move a few places back, just in case there was danger behind the door, the Doctor placed his Key in the Key Hole and turned it.  The Tumblers turned and CLICK, the door  opened automatically.  The Doctor backed up and stood next to Reggie. With the door now open, the humming could now be heard even louder.

"Wow, is that what I think it is ?" said Reggie pointing with one of his claws .

"Yes, I am afraid to say it is "  sighed The Doctor

What have they discovered ?  and what did it mean ?.....you will find out next time.

So Until then    ENJOY !
