As the Doctor continued with the story he used illustrations he had made in his journal to help Jack and Phooey visualize the story better.
" I did these when I was at School. I found that it helped Me understand what I had learnt and discovered in my research " The Doctor said placing the book down before the Two Chums. It was now open on a page never seen before by them.
Jack and Phooey sat silent as the Doctor unrolled the scroll a little bit more and continued with the story.
Both Kings' sat on the bench facing the Painting of Queen Puree, but just as Wayee sipped on his Wine and prepared to tell the story of his wife a faint bleeping noise could be heard emanating from inside the one of Young Kings gloves.
The Young King apologized and said that must be his Flag Ship "The Victorious " contacting him to ensure he was fine. The Young King then took the small communicator out of his glove and looked at it. Wayee offered to vacate the room so to offer the Young King some privacy. The Young King refused and told Wayee that if they were to work together they could not afford ANY secrets between them. Wayee smiled and sat silently. The Young King then put the device onto the bench they were sitting so both could see it . This was his way of showing Wayee that he meant what he said.
The Young King spoke into the communicator and a face appeared on the display. It was General Brut - Tal. Who he had put in charge of the Fleet whilst the King was down on the Planet Karank. Brut - Tal was the Uncle of The Young King.
The General was Brother to King CEZ - ARR and also a son of King BLIZZ - ARR. However, as BRUT - TAL was born before BLIZZ - ARR became King, he was by Law not seemed fit to rule. Brut -Tal accepted this but he became friends with his younger brother Cez -Arr, and when Cez - Arr became King he appointed Brut- Tal to be his General and head of his military forces. Not able to call himself "Prince" everyone knew who he was, the brother of the King. Cez - Arr allowed his brother to wear a chest plate like his own to show he was of Royal Blood. Years later Brut - Tal would give up most of power and responsibilities to Cez - Arr's sons as they grew up. Even though reduced to just advisor he remained totally loyal to his brother up until his death and now continued to be to his nephew.
The General, after hearing a few key words that they had previously agreed on, knew that the Young King was not in any danger. The Young King then asked if the warships had been prepared just as per his instructions . Brut-Tal confirmed this had been done with all 15, and all Captain's and Senior Officers onboard them were loyal to the Young King. Finally, Brut - Tal confirmed that half of the remaining Fleet were in the Process of preparation to leave the Star System also as per The Young Kings orders. Brut-Tal did say that he was still looking into the other matters, and would communicate when he had found any answers.
Signing off, the Young King yet again apologized to his host for interrupting the story. Wayee asked what the other matters were ?. The Young King said simply " I want to know how my Father managed to deactivate your defense grid, and was Cez -Arr murdered as he had suspected."
Wayee said that from what he had gathered from his sources, the Defense Shield had been deactivated using the correct combination of codes. No one person on Karank had the complete set of codes, so some one must had per-cured them and then provided them to Cez-Arr. The secret of who had done this and why was still a mystery. A secret that Cezz -Arr took to his grave. 16 sets of Code numbers that would have been kept in 16 different locations. AND they could only be used and transmitted from outside the shielded area.
Both Wayee and the Young King knew that as much as one could do to prevent it, sometimes people act to sabotage or destroy as there would have been much to gained. But Who within the Shielded Area would have been so selfish ?. The Young King knew that his Father could be ruthless, and making a deal with anyone was never without risk of Cez - Arr not honoring his part. The reward must have been great for anyone to risk Cezz - Arr backing out on the deal after he had gotten the codes.
The Young King knew that his Father must have had the ability to lower the Defense Shield surrounding Karank for some time. His Father must have had them when he sent message to have him his youngest son come with as many of the Fleet as possible. It had taken many weeks for The Young King to arrive with the remaining fleet of Warships. Originally The Young King had believed that a weakness must have been found in the Shield and the combined fire power of the Warships would have allowed access. Weyee said that this was not the case. He explained that the Shield "fed" off of any energy used against it. The more power used would make the shield more powerful.
The Young King asked how actually did the Defense Grid work.
Wayee stood up and retrieved a book out of his desk drawer.
It Showed Pictures of the Shielded Area, and gave detail of how the Shield worked. The Young King was surprised that the Shielded Area that had been in force recently was much smaller than first planned, and had gotten smaller over time it seemed too.
Wayee tried to explain how the Shield worked. It a simple idea. Most Force Fields were designed to stop things getting in and out. Way back in King Wayee's Great Grandfathers time a scientist realized that surround a large part of space with this type of defense shield would take far too much energy. Even taking energy from a Sun would not provide enough power. However, if you build a shield that keeps anyone or thing from coming in, but lets anyone out this would use less power to maintain. Wayee simplified it by saying "Think of it like a War ship which can raise its defensive Shield and still be able to fire its blasters through it. This was the same idea. "
There was a drawing of an Ankarian Battle Ark firing its lasers through its force shield at Six Farllon Stealth Raiders and a Farllon Cannon Ship.
"Is it true that most of the smaller Farllon ships did not have any defensive shielding ? " asked Wayee
"The is true" Replied The Young King. "My father thought that if the pilot was too confident in relying on the the defensive properties of his ship, he would not be as good of a pilot as he could. "
He continued "Our fighters are well equipped with thick armored plating to the front, but limited Armour was installed to the rear. This was to ensure that the pilots always attacked their enemy head on , and did not retreat and flee. "
"Your Father did have some unusual ideas !" said Wayee
"Yes unusual ideas, and a large number of pilots and ships to relay on ?" laughed the Young King.
Both Men laughed and Wayee continued with his tale.....
After many years, in which what was left the Ankarian Empire and its people had withdrawn into a smaller sector of space around the Ankar Home World Karank, the shield was finally perfected. It was a simple idea. A series of small shield generators would be placed around the area of space. They drew power from the Blue Sun that all the planets orbited. There would have been millions of them, but some how they were built. Self replicating Wayee believed, as this was not clear in the notes he had. He thought some information was never written down just in case some one tried to use this to destroy or damage the shield.
Another map showed what had been left of the Ankarian Empire at this time.
The Solar System consisted of 5 Inner Planets and 5 Outer Planets. Some populated others unpopulated. Some were able to support life, others had artificial habitats and outposts sited there.
Wayee showed a picture of the 10 Planets and their obits around the Blue Sun called Karrio. This was a vast area. Some of their orbits took years to complete a full rotation.
The Young King was puzzled. He thought that there were less than ten planets in the Solar System. Wayee nodded. And confirmed he would try to explain why 10 became 8 later on.
On the next page was another picture that compared the Sizes of the Planets and showed any Moon that orbited the Planet itself. Many of these Planets were very useful for the Empires Economy, some were not.
The Outer Planets from the furthest out were called......
BETT - ANKAR . This was the largest Planet in the Solar System. It was called the Fire Planet as it was completely Volcanic and its surface was nothing more than Lava. Nothing could survive on the Surface. Ankarian Scientist has been able to set up many globes around the planet that were used to absorb radiation that could be turned in Fuel for the many War Ships and Space Transports that Ankarian's had needed in the War of the Realms. As Ankar would be withdrawing from the War, its need for vast amounts of fuel for its Warships would now be void.
PINKA. This was known as the Flower Planet OR The Garden Planet. Most of the food grown on Pinka helped feed the population on the other planets. Its Soil was lush, and about anything you could dream of could be grown on its surface. Having this Planet outside the shielded area would need considering. As this was used as the main source of food for the Empire, could alternatives be found on other planets ?
PLANKA, Was the Forrest World. Here like PINKA, the planet had a good ecosystem. 90% of the Surface was covered in Forests. Its Ocean was subterranean so the Trees were always well fed. The other thing about the Planet was that it had a good balance of metal ore in its rocks. This Metal when refined would help build the Warships needed. However, only 5 % of the planet was allowed to be mined, as this caused too much destruction to the habitat.The Metal Ore would not be needed as the remaining fleet if ships would now be only needed as transport. Older ships could be repurposed or even recycled.
THRYEE had only one small land mass, and three oceans all intersected with it. Each Ocean had different elements with in its structure, which added to the multitude of Sea Life . It also had three Moons that orbited it. UNO, DOOS and TWA. All these Moons able to support life. This was where most of the Population lived, while on the land mass on the Planet was left as processing factory that fleets of fishing ships would go out collecting food from the Ocean to help feed that Ankarian Empire. The Oceans were full of fish and water type mammals, that if carefully fished would not cause an imbalance to the Marine Eco System. Vegetation was farmed from under the waters that help to supplement the risk of over fishing. Again the loss of this major source of food would need to be looked into. Could enough specimens be either taken and re homed inside the shielded area, that depended on a suitable place being located.
The Last Planet of the 5 Outer Planets was called ZELTA. This Planet was made up of GAS that was both poison and corrosive. This Planet was far too dangerous to visit, and although Ankarian Scientists believed the Gas or Gases could have a use, no one was ever able to successfully take enough samples to test. It had been called ZELTA after the Ankarian Goddess of Death. This Planet was not needed in the great plan. However as Zelta was the nearest of the Outer Planets to Karank this was an issue.
Originally the Shield it was design to encompass all of the 10 planets in the Karank System, but this would prove too difficult to build let alone be able to power such an enterprise.. So a smaller version of the shield was designed to encompass the 5 inner planets in the that circled Karrio The Blue Sun.
The Inner Planets consisted of ......
MEGGALLOM, the Sand Planet. Most of the Surface of this Planet was Desert. It could support life, but only in artificially built structures and Cities. Like PLANKA, this planet had water underground oceans. Attempts to transform this world had never been very successful. The Sand itself had special properties that made it ideal to make extremely strong but light weight building blocks from. Plans were made to possibly try to transform an area large enough to form an ocean and have life moved from Thryee. The Scientists said it could be possible but may take a time to establish.
TORKLATTA, was the Business Capital of the Ankarian Empire. This Planet shared the same orbit at Meggallom. Here its people were given the roll of controlling all the communication throughout the Empire and with any of its War Fleets throughout the Known Universe. Also it was in Charge of the running of the Commerce on all Ankarian Worlds. The Planet had no real natural resources, but was charged with extracting the best out of the other worlds. As some of these operations would be void if Ankar withdrew inside a shielded. The land could be returned to farming and the Oceans restocked. The Planet had many floating cities already built. These on could be used for the conservation and help with the transportation of sea life from Thryee.
GRISS'ISDEY WYRD Or (WORLD), was where most of the great scholars of ANKAR would receive their Education. They would teach every thing from Art to Literature, History to Science, Leadership to Politics, from War Fare to Peaceful negotiations, Building and Architecture. Every subject imaginable was able to be learnt there. Great Cities were constructed dealing with one or more subjects. Although there were other Academies on other Planets, this was the Planet of Study and Learning. This planet would stay the same. However, if parts of the Planet could be converted to either providing food of other resources it would be.
MYSTICK, was the Home of the Church of ANKAR. The Moon that orbited the Planet was called MYST, after the Ancient God of Love & Light. Many believed that this had been the birth place of MYST, who was believed to be both Mother and Father of the Great Leader and First King Ank - Arian.. He who made peace among the 13 warring tribes of old. Only 12 of the Tribes United under his rule, whilst the 13th went into exile as their Leader LONN from the Tribe called The FARE - LYONS had little time for peace. Where the 13th Tribe went nobody knew. It was written that they set sail into the Stars and never returned. Although many did not believe in religion any longer, but all Ankarian's believed that MYST looked after their souls after Death. Again a Planet that had never been used for anything but religion, religious study, meditation and spiritually purposes. So again this Planet could be used in different ways that would help the a "New" Ankarain Empire.
The nearest Planet to the Blue Sun Karrio was KARANK. This was the Home World of the Ankarian Empire. This had been the First Planet known to have supported life in this solar system. This is where the High Council and Leaders of the Military took orders and offered advice to The King. It had one Moon called NO -WEYY. This Moon was just a bunch of Gases that had become frozen out in space. Scientific minds believed that the Moon was originally a comet that got captured in the gravity of Karank and became its moon. It was also believed that this Moon brought the first microscopic life to KARANK. It did orbit the Home World, but at a very slow rate. To most the Moon never ever moved in the Skies. It had been setting in the same position and it was estimated that from the Palace it would not settle below the horizon of Sea for another Three Thousand Years. The Glimmering light from it was the gases released from the Sun Karrio melting the outer layer of NO -WEYY. Again Scientists thought that it would be millions of years before the Moon finally evaporated completely. The Gases combined with blue rays of the Sun had had a positive effect of life on the Home World. People were more healthy than other Ankarians off World. Animals thrived better in this atmosphere as did all wild life. This effect was also enjoyed by the people not originally native of Ankar. Many of the other 15 Species had developed better health and the only the Blue Eye colour had been an issue to some. The Farllon especially became more healthy and their skin colour appeared a more lighter blue. This and fact because of the discovery that there was Genetic Connection between Ankarian and Farllon many now thought that the Farllon's could have descended from the FARE - LYONS.
The Young King agreed, as he had discovered also that a connection had been by his people but it was never acknowledged. He had discovered in the Royal Archives of Farllon copies of papers with pictures of cave paintings that had been found on the Farllon home world. These appeared to show a group of people sailing through the Stars away from a small Blue Planet that circled a Big Blue Sun, lead by a Man that was called Lord. LORD in ancient Farllon script was written as LON. The writing on the the cave walls had called these people the FAR - LON, the FAR LORD'S. Another picture showed twelve men being defeated by one other. And the Word AN KARS , which in ancient times mean ALL COWARDS . These caves had been destroyed years ago by one of his ancestors to hide this secret that maybe they had descended from their enemy the ANKAR. Even in the modern Farllon language the commonly used term for a fool was an AKAR. Weyee smiled, and thought that the term Farllon was also sometimes used to describe a thoughtless and stupid person by some Ankarians.
It took many years to build and perfect the shield and was finally ready to place into operation just before Wayee's Great Great Grandfather died. In the years running up to the Shield being raised many people living on the 5 outer planets relocated to the inner planets. Some chose to remain outside the Shielded Area, as many believed that as Ankar had withdrawn from the hostilities they would be safe for many generations. This was true. The Shield proved to be to be successful. The only problem was that once activated the Shield could not be deactivated . Many of the people building the System became trapped outside as a result, BUT this was a choice they had made to protect others Wayee explained.
Most of the Ankarian War Fleet Stayed inside the Shielded Area, but these ships could be deployed to offer protection to people living on the outer Planets. But the cost would be the ship and crew would never be able to return inside the shielded area.
As Planned Wayee explained that there had been much success in transforming different Planets to help the remaining peoples who remained within the Shielded Area. This had been helped by the mix of races that had decided to remain also. The People Stopped referring themselves by the Race Names. All now called themselves The Ankarian Peoples. As much effort was taken so that some of the races did not start to segregate themselves away from others. Any Racism was not tolerated. And if anyone could not or would not follow the new rules, then they could either be asked to leave the shield area or in some cases they would be placed aboard a small space craft and ejected through the Shield. This was done as a last resort, but the people leaving the Shielded Area would be given sufficient food and supplies to take with them. Most headed to the safety one one of the Outer Planet. These Planets although were still under Ankarian protection, they were allowed to rule themselves. Some of them had reintroduced the death penalty so to help bring order. Anyone not living by Ankarian standards would be punished.
Life was good, but soon an incident on one of the Planets could have meant destruction of the whole Empire.
