HERALD HOUNDS RE UNITED

The force of nature called Dog-alactus the mighty planet muncher has employed many herald hounds of the years. Their task to sniff out his next meal.

Here is a sample of some of his earlier Planet Sniffing  Hounds. Empowered by the PUPPY POWER COSMIC, all of them renowned as being some of the most powerful canines in the known universe and beyond.

You have  The Silver Sniffer, The Nova Rover, The Air Woofie Walker, The Dog-stroyer, Ter-Rex and Fire Paws

Other Herald Hounds followed, but none served as well as his champion herald, The SILVER SNIFFER.

THE AVENGING HOUNDS ENTER THE 1970'S

By the time the Hero Hounds had reached the 1970's many members had come and gone.  By this time most of the founding members had returned, and some heroes had changed names and powers.

Hairy Pym had married his Partner Janet Van Dog, and they had remained with the team as The Yellow Jack Russel and The Waspish Pooch,   The Hawk eyed Hound had put his bow and arrows away and had become The 2nd  Hound Goliath with a little help from Dr Pym.  The Viz-Hound had made an honest Mutt-ant out of his beloved Scarlet Bitch.  Which had upset her brother Quick Slobber, who had himself married an In-Canine Princess, and that marriage was starting to fall apart. 

On the whole this was a great team of hero hounds, and with some heavy hitters on the roster, this was one of the most powerful teams ever seen. A team that included a Horse Dog, a Robotic Mutt, 2 Mutt-ants, a War Hero, an old style Knight , an modern day Knight , 3 size changing adventurers, and an African King.  What else could one ask for ! Well they did have an EX -  Russian Spy and a Olympian Demi- Dog in reserve if needed.

THINGS AIN'T WHAT THEY USED TO BE !

Back in 1961 A scientist, His best friend, The woman he loved & her kid brother blasted off into space looking for adventure...... but they came back with much much more.

We all know the origin of the FUR-TASTIC FOUR, if not have a look back at their entries in my blog earlier this year. Unlike most super hero hounds, this team or Family all adopted a single look regarding their costumes. Blue and Black with a Big 4 on the front.

And over the years the look remained basically the same, a reversal of colours in the 1990's was the most radical of changes.... ( we try to forget the red and yellow worn by Jaw-nee Storm ....aka  Hot Dog, the Canine Torch. Re,member  it was the 1970's after all, plus his big sister was not about at the time to tell him to go change ! )

BUT one member of the quartet did wear lots of variations to his costume, ( although most folk did not notice. )  so I have compiled a sample of the Best and maybe worst looks adopted by BONE GRIMM, the HAIRY THING

Your have every thing from the original flight suit, to the Hat and Coat disguise,  His original FF costume with helmet, to him in his over sized shorts after one of his many transformations back to Bone from the Hairy Thing.  I have even included Bone in his robotic Hairy Thing exo skeleton
, his second helmet to hide his scares from the Wooferine.... along with his Additional Mutt-antion new look  from the 1990's to his current Fur-ture Houndation  white jump suit.

He may have started out as a big orange lumpy monster, but he ended up a more refined walking pile of bricks, the idol of millions (so he says)

X MUTTS FIRST CLASS

Back in 1963 when the X Mutts first appeared on the scene, no one had really heard of Mutt-ants.  In a world that feared the different, the Un-Caninie X-Mutts proved that having amazing powers was not all that it was cracked up to be.

Where the Fur-Tastic Four and The Avenging Hounds became something to look up to, the Teenage Mutt-ant Mutts did not have the same effect.  Whilst the FF & The AV HOUNDS  found FAME in the HEARTS of the public, the poor old X-Mutts brought FEAR into the Hearts of the Public

But the X-Mutts continued to protect the world from the threat of EVIL Mutt-ants, even if the world did not like them very much.

Even when The Ex - Brotherhood of Evil MUTT-ANT MUTTS members, Quick Slobber and his sister The Scarlet Bitch joined the Av Hounds and found acceptance, their "cousins" from the X-Mutts still were treated as a possible threat.

Eventually, The Public would come to accept Pupfessor Rex's  X-Mutts, but that would not be for  many years to come.

Here we have the original X-Mutts from 1963, CYCPUPS, MARVEL MUTT, BIRD DOG. THE BEASTIE &  ICE DAWG with Pupfessor Rex, along with them all grown up as CYCPUPS, THE FURRY PHOENIX, BIRD DOG, THE HAIRY BEASTIE & ICE DAWG from the early 1980's

Although the school reunion never happened  until the after the death of the Furry Phoenix

THE FIRST "NEW" TEAM OF THE AVENGING HOUNDS

After the original founding Avenging Hounds left to pursue their own lives in 1965 , it was up to Canine America to find replacements otherwise the AV Hounds would have faded away.

His first recruits were the Mutt-ant brother and sister twins known as Quick Slobber and the Scarlet Bitch.  A third new member joined also,  he was  known as the Hawk eyed Hound.  These three ex - vill-hounds plus the Canine America became known as Cap's Kooky Crew.

These 4 were not as powerful as the originals, but still  proved to be as good as the founding Avenging Hounds.    A later addition of the Swords Dawg  to the quartet did not prove to be a good choice, as it turned out he only joined to help destroy the team.  The Swords Dawg was expelled from the team.  Other Hero Hounds joined the team in the following months, along with the return of Giant Dawg, now called the Hound Goliath and his partner the Waspish Pooch. Both Hair-collies  & the Bark Widow were both offered membership, but only Hair-collies. the Pup of Power accepted at this time.

So by the tail part of the 1967 the line up looked something like the picture below.

Here we have the Avenging Hounds standing outside the gates to their home on 5th Avenue. You may notice that that naughty dog, The swords Dawg is there too.   Maybe he is asking to be re admitted to the team.

I did a little rework on most of the mutts, especially The Scarlet Bitch and Quick-Slobber as the original drawings did not transfer that well from my old computer to this.

A FLYING VISIT BY THE FIRST FAMILY OF HERO HOUNDS

The Fur-tastic Four have been around Since the early 1960's.  Saving the world every day, and the Universe at the weekends.

The FF are an unique group in the Hero Hound community as they really put Family First. Although the group dynamic has at times changed over the years, in the end the line up always returns to the originals, Mr Fur-Tastic, The Invisible Pooch, Hot Dog The Canine Torch & not forgetting the Hairy Thing.

Here is the team returning to their home at the Barker Building abroad the Fabulous Flying Bath Tub. after a long day fighting the likes of  Dog-tor Doom or it could be The Frightful Fur.
