THE AVENGING HOUNDS CIRC 1960'S

This week I have decided to go back and revisit some of my past works and up date them... and present them in a fresher way.

Today we have the original line up of the Avenging Hounds along with Rick Jaws, former side kick to the Hounded Hulk and now assisting the Canine America.

Here you see the team in the gardens of the Avenging Hounds Mansion at the foot of the statue dedicated to the original founders.

The Avenging Hounds Mutt-Hatton Mansion can be found on 5th Avenue in New Yorkie City. The Mansion was gifted to the Avenging Hounds by Iron Hounds employer, Boney Bark.   What the Heroic Hounds did not know at the time was Boney Bark was in fact the  IRON HOUND

Looks like someone forgot to invite the Hounded Hulk as he has gate crashed the party.

THE HELL-CAT CANINE

PUPSEY WALKIES started her life a a little rich girl and model. Her life was full of parties and fun, fun. fun. She had her own line of fashion, beauty products, TV show and Comic Book.   BUT one day she found the discarded costume of a former hero hound, GROWL NELSON,  the Former CANINE-KAT and now known as TIGROWLER the Were Woof,.... BUT when Pupsey put it on the HELL- CAT CANINE was born.

Although she had no real super puppy powers at the outset of her career as the HELL- CAT CANINE , she found that the costume increased her natural abilities. The Costume also had in built weapons and equipment, like her claw grappling hooks and her razer Sharp claws set into her gloves and boots.

Before becoming the HELL- CAT CANINE , Pupsey had met the Hairy Beastie, who she had discovered was really Hairy McCOY. She said that she would keep his secret as long as he aided her in her quest to be a hero hound. 

Hairy agreed, and when Pupsey found her new costume identify, he helped her with her training to make her a true hero hound.  The Hairy Beastie was at the time a member of the Avenging Hounds and soon she was inducted into the team, as what she lacked in power, she made up with determination and wit. 

She stayed with the Avenging Hounds for a few months, and whilst there started to receive training from the Moon Doggon, Hounda Doglas.   When Hounda took a leave of absence, she invited Pupsey to come to her home on Titan where she could continue her training.

Whilst on Titian Pupsey would increase her martial arts and fighting skills and Moon-Doggon would also help her develop her mental skills.

When the HELL- CAT CANINE  returned to Earth she took up with the Hero Hounds of the Dog-fenders, as she liked the less fussy relationship that the Non-group had.  Whilst fighting along side the Dog-fenders, she met, and fell in love with one of her team mates called Dogian Hellstrom. The world knew him better as The Satanic Hound of Hell.   They decided to marry.

The marriage was good at first, but Dogian's demonic side started to cause problems between the happy couple. When Dogian finally allowed Pupsey to see his true demonic sole, this caused her to go completely mad.

Poor old Pupsey could not coupe with what she had seen, and in a desperate act to free herself from her misery, she took her own life.

Years later it was discovered that she had not truly died, she had been abducted into Hell by her Husbands Father... (or it could have been one of the many evil demons that claim to be the true Devil)

She was later released and returned to her former life as a Hero Hound.

You can say that Pupsey Walkies had really been to Hell and back during her life,  but  what else would you expect from a Hero Hound calling herself The  HELL- CAT CANINE .

THE MOODY MOON DOGGON

Hounder  Dog-las was orphaned as a young child. Her parents were murdered for little reason by
 the universal menace known as FANGOS ............. Mentor, father of the Mad Fangos took the young pup  Hounder to his home on the moon of titan,  in the orbit of the Planet  Saturn. Mentor and his people were from the race called The Etern-Howls. A long living and powerful people that had visited earth many times in the planets past.   Hounder was raised by an order of Monks on Titan..There she grew up and developed mental powers whilst studying.   The Monks also helped her with the training her body so it would be at the  peak of perfection. She mastered many fighting skills and ways of self  defence.

Hounder had many faults, most of them to do with her attitude and arrogance towards others. This did not endear her to anyone. When Fangos attacked Titan, Hounder used this as a great excuse to leave her boning home, and travel back to earth for adventure.

When  she return to earth as a grown  canine, she called herself The MOON DOGGON, as her powers had come from her association with The Doggon of the Moon.  (who she had killed in battle )

She became one of the Avenging Hounds at a time that their ranks were depleted. It is thought that in hindsight, Moon Doggon may have used her powers to manipulate them into offering her a position on the team.  She remained on the team for a while but her problems with her arrogance and her ego made Hounder far from being  a real team player. Some of the Avenging Hounds began to question her ethics and how she would use her powers.

The final straw came is when she used her powers to convince the Team to conquer an alien planet, that she then decided to rule with Paw The Dog of Thunder as her Lover and protector.  However, The Avenging Hounds broke free of Moon-Doggon's mental control, and Paw took her back to AS-DOG, home of the Horse Dogs where she was imprisoned for a time. 

When she was later released into the custody of the Dog-Fenders, she came complete with a new metal head band. This Head Band she could not remove, as it controlled her mental powers. In that she no longer could use them to manipulate her fellow team mates. If she tried she would get a shock as her mind energies would be directed back at her. This caused her one big headache.

On the whole The Moon-Doggon is not a Bad Puppy, she just lacks training and self control. Her attitude  towards others. and her disregard of anyones thoughts or feelings is what  lets her down. Believing that she is right all of the time is what causes most problems with everyone else. She thinks that she is a great leader and should be followed, whilst others see her as a pain in the @@@@ !

THE ROAD FROM X-MUTT TO AVENGING HOUND part 3

Hairy was now a real Hairy Beastie. He was not prepared to give up his life as a scientist or as Hairy McCOY, so he needed to find a way to change himself back to his normal canine self.

He knew if he was to find a cure for his Grey Furry look, he would need to have access to the Labs at the Brand Corporation. The answer was simple, he would need to make him self look like Hairy McCOY again and not a BIG GREY HAIRY BEASTIE.

He designed a mask with wig and gloves that resembled his normal looking over sized paws. By putting on this disguise  he could pass freely as himself.  He continued to look for a cure for many months. He could not find a cure for his condition. However, his Grey Fur now had changed to a more pleasing Blue colour.  Most probably due to the fact his body was accepting the transformation.

His life was not all work work work, he sometimes found time to go on adventures as The HAIRY BEASTIE. One of these adventures brought him into contact with his old enemies from the Brother Hood of Evil Mutt-ant Mutts.  Due to his new look, they did not recognise him, but he knew who they were.  He engaged them in battle, BUT the Mutt-ant called THE MUTT-MASTERMIND used his illusion powers and mind control to make Hairy join their merry little gang of wrong doers.

Under the control of the MUTT-MASTERMIND Hairy found himself fighting with The Iron Hound, and in a turn of events Hairy believed he had murdered the Golden Avenging Hound.  This act brought Hairy to his senses, as he realised he was not a killer. Luckily Iron Hound was not dead, only stunned.

Hairy returned to his life with the Brand Corporation, but realised that his new look was perminate and he would need to get used to it.  Hiding behind a rubber mask was not for him anymore. Hairy resigned from his research job and decided to enjoy life as the Hairy Beastie.

He had many adventures and when the AVENGING HOUNDS announced that they needed new members, as their numbers were now greatly reduced with the death of The Swords Dawg,  The Viz-Hound and his new bride The Scarlet Bitch were away on honeymoon, and Mutt-tis after marring her Plant Swords Dawg was off traveling the universe. So new members were needed if the AV Hounds could continue.

Hairy tried out for the AVENGING HOUNDS, and was given a provisional  membership.  BUT he quickly showed that he was what the AV HOUNDS needed, and granted full membership. He moved into his new home at the Avenging Hounds Mansion  located on Mutt-hatton Island in NEW YORKIE CITY with pride,  He remained am AVENGING HOUND for many years. On occasions he would lend a paw to his old school pals the X-Mutts, and with the Dog-fenders and The Chumpions.... but for the time being Hairy McCOY  had finally found a place for himself as one of the Heroes called The AVENGING HOUNDS

He made many friends on the team, most specially with  Wonder Mutt.  Also being on the team helped canine - Mutt-ant relations a lot.  For the first time in his life Hairy McCOY did not have to hide who he was, the world had accepted him  and he was happy to be The HAIRY BEASTIE.

Once an Avenging Hound, always an Avenging Hound they say.... BUT he was a MUTT-ANT first, and when the time came he could not resist returning to his true home with..... The Un-Caninie X-Mutts.

THE ROAD FROM X - MUTT TO AVENGING HOUND part 2

HAIRY McCOY proved to be an excellent student whilst attending the REX SCHOOL FOR GIFTED DAWGS.  He scored high grades in all of his subjects. He loved science and loved spending time doing experiments.

His fellow students like himself were Mutt-ants.  Originally he shared classes with 3 other male students. Scottie Summers, Warren Woffington the Third and  Doggie Drake. Hairy was the eldest of the group, whilst Doggie Drake was the young pup of the group. Whilst  Doggie and Warren liked to enjoy life like Hairy, Scottie was more reserved. All four of them had amazing powers, but Scottie's power was the most dangerous. So in some respects he was right to be a little bit serious and reserved around others.

One day Pupfessor Rex informed the students that a new canine was to join them in the school.  This turned out to be a young Bitch called Jean Greyhound.  The guys all fell over themselves to be close to Jean, but she only  had eyes for one dawg, the silent and shy Scottie. He as usual stayed his distance as he was worried that he could hurt her by mistake.

No sooner had Jean unpacked before PUPFESSOR REX summoned them all to the Danger Dawg Room for training.

All the students attended, dressed in their X - MUTT uniforms. SCOTTIE, WARREN, HAIRY, DOGGIE and JEAN, were now referred to as CYCPUPS, BIRD DOG, THE BEASTIE, COOL DAWG and MARVEL MUTT.

The Dangerous Dawg Room, was a special place were all of the students could use their powers freely. BIRD DOG could fly using his wings, COOL DAWG could use his freezing powers of snow and ice, MARVEL MUTT could show everyone what she could achieve with her telekinesis, The BEASTIE could swing, jump and do what he did best.  For CYCPUPS he could unleash his optic blast puppy power in a safer environment. ( although he would always be on his guard never to hurt his fellow students. )

Here within the DANGEROUS DAWG ROOM these five young MUTTS learnt how to use their puppy powers as individuals and together as a TEAM. Pupfessor RE X's dream was finally achieved, and this Dream Had a Name....... The Un-Caninie X-MUTTS

Shortly afterwards his team went public to tackle a Mutt-ant Menace by the name of MUTT-NETO the Magnetic Mutt.  BUT his story I will save for another time.

Hairy enjoyed his time as the BEASTIE, and lived and fort beside his fellow X-Mutts for many years. Even after graduation, he like the others stayed and tried to keep Pupfessor Rex's dream alive. HOWEVER, Hairy began to feel that something was missing in his life. He was older than most of the other X-Mutts and wanted to start living his life, and doing things that he wanted to do.

The X-Mutts team had grown over the years to include, Lorna Great-Dane aka POLARITY POOCH, Mutt of Magnetic Might, and Scottie's younger sibling Howlicks Summers The HAVOK HOUND.  He asked Pupfessor Rex to allow him to leave, so that he could pursue the other Passion in his life   SCIENCE.  Rex accepted Hairy's resignation from the X-MUTTS. He told him that he would miss Hairy, but understood that he could not stand in the way of one of his beloved students.  He told Hairy, that The BEASTIE would always have a home with the X-MUTTS if he would ever need or want to return.

Hairy would one day return to the X-MUTT family, BUT this would be years later, and he would not be calling himself the BEASTIE any longer.

Hairy had found a job as a researcher for the BRAND  CORPORATION. It did not take very long for him to be offered the post as Chief Researcher in the Area of genetics.   Hairy had choose Genetics as he wanted to discover more about why MUTT-ANTS and Mutations happen.  The fact he was a MUTT-ANT he still needed to keep secret, but he thought if he could help understand why it happened, this answer  could help  quash any fears that most Canines had with their Mutt-ant cousins.

Also Hairy had seen first hand that many Mutt-ants hated themselves for being different. Whilst Doggie, Jean, Lorna & Howlicks looked normal, they had the ability to turn their X puppy powers off and one. Thus being able to live a normal life. Whilst Warren and himself had Mutation that affected there bodies, IE Warren's wings which he had to hide beneath his clothing and Hairy who hid his massive frame and over large paws with the use of clever  clothing.  Scottie on the other hand should have been able to turn his optic blasts on and off, but due to a head injury as a young PUP. his DANGEROUS optic Blasts remained turned on 24 /7.  Thus meaning he could only see life through his Ruby Quartz Visor or Glasses, which he wore to contain his deadly energy beams.

Hairy thought that he may find a cure for certain Mutt-ations, but a he understood that CURE may not be quite the right word.  Soon Hairy had made a discovery of sorts. He managed to isolate one of the Genes that could cause Mutt-ations. This was a great discovery, but not really what he wanted.  Further research showed him that he could cause the GENE to Mutate the host. However, this Gene was only found in his own Mutated blood.  Further tests showed that any increase in Mutt-ation would only last a short while. Wanting to share his research with a college he went to seek advise and help from a fellow researcher, DR SNARLS MADDOGS  But although he shared some of the information about his Gene discovery, he failed to let on HE was the source of  Mutt-ant blood used to discover the gene.

Hairy continued his research until one day he found that some one had stolen copies of some of his research papers. He decided to investigate the crime himself.  He decided to become the Beastie again, but was worried that even in costume, if spotted by any of the other scientists or staff at the Brand Corporation, they would figure out he was Hairy McCoy and blow his cover and maybe endanger the identities of the X-Mutts through his connection with the School. So taking a chance Hairy decided to use his discovery to further Mutate himself.  Knowing that the effects were only temporary he ingested some of the gene compound himself.  The transformation was quick, he body grew larger, his fur turned grey, he grew fangs and claws too.  He found out he was even stronger than before, his agility had trebled.

Pleased with his new look, he decided to make use of this new body while he could. Not knowing how long the new look would last, he went off in search of who had stolen his work.   He soon discovered that DR SNARLS MADDOGS.... who he had shared his finding with had stolen his work, along with many other research secrets from the company. Hairy handed him over to the police and returned home and awaited his new mutt-ation to wear off.  By the morning  he was still all grey and furry, as he was also much later that night.   By the following day one of the staff from the Corporation came looking for him, or should I say Hairy.  They had learnt about DR SNARLS MADDOG and were worried that something had happen to Hairy McCOY.  The police also came and forced entry into Hairy's  Apartment fearing the worse.  Once inside they were shocked to discover a Large Grey Hairy Monster, the police drew their guns.  Hairy escaped through the window. For the next few hours hairy was hunted by the police, as they believed that this Grey monster had killed Hairy McCOY.  Hairy was in a complete panic. What could he do ?  Turn himself in and end up trying to explain that he was Hairy McCoy, which would mean telling them about the BEASTIE, the X-MUTTS and Pupfessor Rex's School for Gifted Dawgs ! or run away and he hunted as the killer of himself.

The answer was clear, he had to become Hairy McCoy again.

THE ROAD FROM X - MUTT TO AVENGING HOUND Part 1

I have already told through my blog a little bit about HAIRY PHIL-PUP MC COY, but here is the full story of the Hero Hound that became known as THE HAIRY BEASTIE.... and how he became the next member of the AVENGING HOUNDS.

From the moment of his birth, Hairy McCoy appeared to be different, His paws and legs were much larger than the average puppy. His head and body also appeared bigger.  This was put down as an genetic fault, which probably happened as a result of Hairy's father working at a Nuclear Power plant for many years. The radiation was the most likely cause of the deformities. However, both of his parents thought he looked lovely.

As the young puppy grew, so did his paws, many thought of him as a freak. He found that he could use both his front paws and back paws to hold things with. He could climb up trees and wall as soon as he was able to walk. When he started school, many of the other young pups refused to play with him due to his freakish looks. However, along with his unusual body, young master mc coy started to display a very advanced intellect. If he was not out climbing trees he would be happy to be reading and learning.

By the time he went to high school he  was twice the size of most of the other students, also he had a intellect to match.  Around this time he tried out for the schools football team. The coach could not believe the skill and grace that he processed, and soon he was star player on the team. AND for the first time other students wanted to be his friend.  He was nick named THE BEASTIE, due to his size. This name gave him a positive identity, AND a feeling that he was now accepted for his looks.  However, what the coach did not know was Hairy was holding back, and only used a small fraction of his abilities whilst playing football  as his parents had always made him hide the full extent of his physical. powers, so not to bring any more attention to himself.

However, the word MUTT-ANT  was sweeping the country, as there had been reports of Canines all over the world showing signs of special abilities. This worried every one, including the government. Poor Hairy was outed as a possible MUTT-ANT by a few of the Schools Students that were jealous of him.

During a football game, Hairy spotted that some one was attempting to Rob the school and were endangering some of the staff and students, without thinking Hairy raced through the stands to  apprehended them. In doing so showed every one what he could really do.

Although the crooks were apprehended, the whole school turned against Hairy, calling him a Fraud and a MUTT-ANT. The coach himself angry, threw Hairy off of the team. Upset at being treated so bad for being different, Hairy race home in tears. At home he was surprised to see that his Parents had company. It was Pupfessor REX, who informed Hairy that Yes he was a Mutt-ant, and with his parents permission would like to offer Hairy a place at his school for gifted dawgs. A school where together Hairy could learn about his abilities and also continue his education away from the stigma of being different.

Hairy accepted and left later that day with the Pupfessor for the School for Gifted Dawgs located outside New Yorkie City.

Whilst at the school, Pupfessor Rex did what he promised, helping Hairy train both his mind and body. Also he Began his secret training  to be come one of Pupfessor Rex's First Team of X-MUTTS. Although Pupfessor Rex did not originally think that his team of  Mutt-ant Mutts would need to go public, the Pupfessor knew that one day they would be needed to to help bring peace and order to the World. Also Pupfessor Rex  made his students realise that only with their help could Canine and Caninesuperior live together in peace.
